They rust when it rains, bc there's no coating to protect the metal.
The rear axel can become detached just from a pothole
The headlights are recessed so when it snows they get covered
Your warranty gets revoked if you take them through a car wash
And speaking of car washes, there are pockets in the engine so a car wash (or rain. Or a hose.) can end up flooding the engine and frying it
They're not legal in England or Australia bc they don't pass roadworthy tests
Trying to get repairs done is a 6-8 month MINIMUM wait(last i heard. It could be longer or shorter(doubtful) now) bc there's so many that need repairing
I still think the single funniest thing about the cybertruck is that it has all those security cameras built in that are set to activate if anyone gets too close to the vehicle...and those cameras need electricity to run, and the cybertruck is a piece of shit that has way less battery life than you'd think, so you can legit just fuck over the owner by just standing near it and doing nothing else.
Like goddamn Elongated Muskrat found a way to let us siphon gas out of a car without even touching it. Fucking incredible.
#and these are just the things i'm 100% sure of.#from memory#it's really fuckin easy to overload the bed and it bends so that the cover becomes unusable#it is REALLY easy for the cover to come off#like i've seen multiple ppl talking about losing the bed cover from driving on the highway#and multiple ppl talking about how the track was bent slightly by something innocuous and now its unusable#i have seen so many ppl saying their twuck got stuck in snow or sand or dirt roads to the point they needed a tow#the charging point breaks stupidly easy#one guy found out his charging point was fucked when he was checking his tire and he got an electric shock#turned out the ENTIRE TWUCK was electrified. if he touched a door he got a shock#there is so many defects i cant remember bc seriously the list is long

au where suguru doesn't defect but brings home nanako and mimiko one night after a wild mission, wanting nothing more than to make sure the small girls are fed, hydrated, and cozy in a warm bed after what they have faced. he arrives and stops in his tracks when he sees satoru, who just brought home little tsumiki and megumi, and you with tiny yuuta, who has been anxiously hiding behind you ever since you brought him home. you and your boyfriends just stare at each other, all thinking the same thing.
"wow," you say first to break the tension-filled silence, then start laughing. behind you, yuuta relaxes a bit, his shoulders slumping in what you're certain is relief. it's gonna be alright now. i'll be okay.
suguru shrugs with a sheepish smile. "well then." next to him, nanako and mimiko also smile. exhausted, but soft and genuine. no more danger. we're safe here.
"okay!" satoru grins as he claps his hands together. "we'll make things work for now, but it looks like we're going to need a bigger house, yeah?" one of his hands pats tsumiki's shoulder, and the other ruffles megumi's spiky hair. both of them exhale, allowing the tension to leave their bodies. he's a bit crazy, but he won't let anything happen to us. things are finally looking up.
three became eight that night. it's busy and chaotic most days, but you, satoru, and suguru wouldn't change a single thing.

cherry on top 🍒 mafia boss!seungcheol x reader. (4)
stories like this always end with a damsel in distress. except—this time around—you’re not the one who needs saving. previous chapter + masterlist.
📄 Minutes of strategic information meeting, filed by Kim Mingyu (Mafia Soldier, Logistics & Recon)
Date: ██████████ Location: Safehouse Omega-9, Undisclosed City Perimeter Time: 03:17 HRS
ATTENDEES:
Yoon Jeonghan (Underboss)
Lee Chan (Combat Unit Leader)
Chwe Hansol (Surveillance Division)
Kim Mingyu (Logistics & Recon; Recording Officer)
Civilian Target [REDACTED] (Unauthorized Attendee)
AGENDA:
Contingency Plan for Retrieval of Boss (S.Coups)
Chain of Command During Absence
External Threat Assessment
[BEGIN TRANSCRIPT]
JEONGHAN: We go in through the east dock. Two snipers posted by 03:40. Chan leads breach. Hansol, your eyes stay on thermal—no improvisation this time.
HANSOL: I never improvise. My brilliance is structured.
CHAN: Can we not do this right now?
JEONGHAN: [ignoring them] Mingyu, once we get him out, you're on evac. Full blackout route. No trackers, no chatter.
MINGYU: Copy.
HANSOL: Any updates on who turned? Someone had to leak coordinates.
CHAN: There’s a list. We’ll handle it after we bring the boss home. One fire at a time.
[DOOR SLAMS OPEN. SOUND OF HIGH-HEELED FOOTSTEPS. SILENCE.]
CIVILIAN TARGET: You’re planning this without me?
JEONGHAN: [visibly tense] You weren’t invited.
CIVILIAN TARGET: He’s my belo—my boyfriend, Jeonghan. You think I’m just going to sit around while you play war games?
JEONGHAN: This isn’t a movie. You’re a civilian. You don’t belong in this room.
CIVILIAN TARGET: No, I’m the reason he still believes in soft things. I belong more than half the people at this table.
CHAN: She’s got a point.
JEONGHAN: Chan.
CHAN: I’m just saying. She’s not exactly fragile.
HANSOL: She did rewire one of my bugs with a paperclip. That was... not unimpressive.
JEONGHAN: [sighs] This isn’t about guts. It’s about blood.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Then you should know mine’s already on the line. Every second he’s gone, I feel it. And I’m done being sidelined. I’m not here to ask. I’m here to help.
[BEAT OF SILENCE. THEN—]
JEONGHAN: You get one job. And if you screw it up, I’ll personally drag you out.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Deal.
JEONGHAN: Hansol, give her the map. Mingyu, loop her in.
MINGYU: You’re going to need a comm. And a bulletproof vest.
CIVILIAN TARGET: Got both. And a knife in my boot.
CHAN: Okay, badass.
[MEETING CONTINUED UNDER LEVEL-2 SECRECY PROTOCOLS. TRANSCRIPT REDACTED. END OF MINUTES.]
FINAL NOTES:
Civilian Target formally added to Operation Homecoming roster.
Jeonghan authorized conditional field involvement.
Morale status: heightened.
Risk level: astronomically high.
🗂️ Operation Homecoming: Field Notes & Briefing Report, compiled by mafia underboss, Yoon Jeonghan
Clearance Level: Top Confidential Date Logged: ██████████ Location: Safehouse Omega-9
SUMMARY: Boss (S.Coups) was captured 48 hours ago following the receipt of a falsified emergency ping traced back to the civilian target’s encoded channel. The ping claimed she’d been injured and was en route to an undisclosed hospital in Sector D. According to surveillance logs, the Boss diverted course alone, abandoning standard security protocol. We believe he was intentionally isolated through signal jamming, then intercepted at the underpass beneath Route 14.
AUTOPSY OF THE TRAP:
Fake GPS tag mimicked civilian target’s bio-signal pattern
Voice distortion software replicated her distress call
EMP deployed upon vehicle arrival to disable tracking
Tactical unit waited with sedation-grade rounds
CURRENT LOCATION OF BOSS: Confirmed. Underground storage facility, formerly Syndicate-aligned. Defected cell now controls the zone. Reinforcements on site. Boss presumed alive—last thermal footage confirms faint movement.
INTERVENTION STRATEGY: OPERATION HOMECOMING
Phase One – Extraction:
Entry through east dock (03:40 HRS)
Chan leads breach unit, Hansol on thermal, Mingyu handling evac
All units silent channel only
Phase Two – Internal Sweep:
Civilian target assigned distraction and misdirection role (see below)
Two-minute window to locate and stabilize Boss
Phase Three – Extraction + Fade:
Mingyu initiates blackout route
Decoys deployed on west perimeter to delay pursuit
Rendezvous at Site Echo
CIVILIAN TARGET: PERFORMANCE LOG
Arrived wearing borrowed Kevlar and jeans tucked into combat boots. Asked if bulletproof vests same in women’s sizes. Did not wait for response.
Showed immediate enthusiasm, zero tactical finesse. Hansol gave her the map. She held it upside down. Twice.
Informed her she’d be working as the visual diversion. Her response: “Like bait?” Followed by: “Cool. I’m good at being annoying.”
Surprisingly effective. Created a loud enough ruckus on the perimeter to draw three guards off their posts. Managed to bluff her way past checkpoint by pretending to be a lost food delivery driver. Claimed she had gluten-free soba for a man named Kevin. There is no Kevin.
Still not sure how she pulled it off.
When Boss was found, he was semi-conscious but breathing. Whispered her name first.
END STATUS:
Boss retrieved.
Minimal casualties (1 injured – not fatal)
Facility compromised but not traced
Civilian target cried in the van. Then threatened to punch me for writing that down. I'm writing it down anyway.
FOOTNOTE — for Seungcheol’s eyes only: You’re reckless, stubborn, and impossible to reason with. But apparently, that’s your thing. You’re also luckier than most of us ever will be.
She didn’t sleep. Not once. Kept looking at every door like you might walk through it.
When you did, she didn’t even say anything. Just threw her arms around you like gravity stopped working.
Try not to make her go through that again.
– YJH
📱 Phone history log, filed by mafia soldier Chwe Hansol
Device: S.Coups' Personal Line (Encrypted Channel #017) Status: Outgoing Messages Only – Blocked by Signal Jammer Timestamp Range: ██:██–██:██ (Time of Abduction)
NOTE: Texts never reached intended recipient. Recovered during post-mission diagnostics. For archival purposes.
[01:12 AM] Where are you? They said you were hurt. I'm on my way.
[01:15 AM] Which hospital? No one's answering. This isn't funny. Call me.
[01:17 AM] Your signal keeps bouncing. Something's wrong. Stay where you are.
[01:21 AM] I swear to god if they laid a hand on you
[01:24 AM] No ambulance ever came.
[01:25 AM] This is a setup.
[01:27 AM] I'm so stupid. They used you. Fuck fuck fuck
[01:28 AM] I should've followed protocol. Should’ve sent Mingyu. Should’ve sent anyone but me.
[01:30 AM] If you get this, lock all the windows. Call Jeonghan. Stay put.
[01:34 AM] They knew I’d come for you.
[01:36 AM] This isn’t your fault.
[01:39 AM] Don’t come after me.
[01:41 AM] Love, beloved, please. Don’t try to save me.
[01:45 AM] You always do this—you throw yourself into fires you don't understand.
[01:49 AM] If they hurt you because of me, I’ll never forgive myself.
[01:52 AM] Tell Jeonghan to burn everything. Get out. Go far.
[01:54 AM] Forget me if you have to. Just live.
[02:01 AM] I love you. Please, please, please, don’t be stupid.
[END OF RECOVERED LOG]
📰 Excerpt from "The Ethics of Mafias: Love in the Line of Fire", a follow-up think piece by Xu Minghao
... If leadership within organized crime is already an ethical minefield, then love within it is something more volatile still: a paradox of vulnerability embedded in violence. New whispers surround the figure known only as S.Coups—the alleged mafia boss whose name, until recently, conjured images of discipline, domination, and an empire forged in precision.
Now, another narrative has emerged. One that reshapes how we understand not just the man, but the very myth he embodies.
According to rumors sourced from both within and outside the organization, S.Coups may have a romantic partner. Not a fellow operative, nor a political alliance. But a civilian. Someone unaffiliated and—crucially—untouched by the bloodied logic of the underworld.
If this is true, the implications are vast.
To love in his position is a risk. It is weakness, some would say. Yet others might argue that such love is the only thing capable of keeping a man like him from becoming monstrous. If the rumors are accurate, she is the reason he looks over his shoulder less. The reason he checks his own wrath. The reason his most trusted lieutenants have stopped fearing him and started worrying about him.
Love, here, is not a diversion. It is discipline.
And perhaps that is the most fascinating ethical twist of all: that this boss, so often theorized as either tyrant or savior, might be both—because of her.
Some say he texts her between assassinations. That he buys her gummy bears because she mentioned liking them once, months ago. That he has started folding her laundry and learning her aunt’s dietary restrictions. These are, of course, unconfirmed. They seem almost laughably mundane. But within the shadowed world of syndicates and secret wars, what could be more radical than tenderness?
Others claim that he was taken. There are now verified reports of a failed abduction and his eventual rescue. She was allegedly involved. They say she showed up unarmed, untrained, and utterly unafraid. They say she demanded to be part of the rescue mission. They say she was reckless, infuriating, and ultimately, instrumental.
And that when he saw her again, he wept.
To be loved, it turns out, is not always soft. Sometimes, it is brutal and inelegant and wildly inconvenient. But in the context of a life built on violence, to be loved is to be saved. Again and again. In the ways that matter.
Whether S.Coups is worthy of that love is not the question. The question is whether it has already changed him. Whether, in the end, the girl outside the syndicate might be the only thing real in a world made of smoke and mirrors.
And whether that, more than power or fear, will be his lasting legacy.
Mafia boss S.Coups is many things. Protector, manipulator. Brother, enemy, friend.
It seems we must add two more things:
Lover, and loved.

impulse stress baking would be appreciated by either Matt or Frank, but reader is not safe if it's being done at late hours, in which they will be railed or fucked into exhaustion.
Matt has his S/O's scent and touch ingrained into his routine and mind, defecting is not an option he needs his cuddles (and yes he will be mean about it, teasing reader for wanting to work so hard on baking when they could work on making him feel good)
Frank just worries for their sleep schedule (which is accurate pls I can't sleep normally) but also can appreciate their baking yet will at first gently try to coax them back to bed, only to just rail them over the counter if they insist they can't sleep due to a sudden burst of energy.
But it all ends with their girl cuddled up in their arms fast asleep from exhaustion yet satisfied, and their baking can wait til the morning.
Oh my god please!! I loved every second of this one!! As someone who does have bouts of doing this (and had to be banned from the kitchen past a certain time when i was younger bc of it😭😭) this one got me. Biiiiiiig time.. I mean omg sleep scheduling with Frank and Matt when god?! When!!!
Like you cannot tell me they wouldn't immediately be looking help you and if sex helps get you all fuzzy and tired?? Fellas are not going to complain.. Whatever their baby needs <3 Also fun fact you guys, i have an oldman logan draft i never finished surrounding a similar concept and hik eating reader out on the kitchen table..😭 But without futher yappin!! Heres some thoughts! <3
Midnight munchies w Frank and Matt!
Warnings?; mentions of smut, doggy and riding, unprotected sex (its hot but in this economy??) fairrrrly fluffy although Matt is a lil mean in a sexy way.. Master list
I can see Frank standing against the doorframe, arms crossed over his bare chest with a sleepy scowl tugging his lips. Large figure just watching the way to try (and fail) to potter around the kitchen quietly. On the counter sits a glass bowl, edges covered in flour and two large baking sheets. On one sits small balls of, what frank guesses is chocolate chip cookie dough- one of his favorites- while the other rests bare in preparation. Frank swipes a hand across his face, tired and slightly irritated as he sighs, padding closer. "What're you.. Christ sweetheart again?"
You grin cheekily at the sight of him, at the broad expanse of him shirtless, scared chest on full display as his sweats sit low on his hips. A slightly dough covered hand coming up in a wave. "'S okay, m' just making cookies frank!"
You're gleeful in tone, too gleeful for 3:30am Frank thinks. This little habit of yours growing out of control. Infact, it makes him worry a little. "Yeah? S' just cookies?" he asks, rounding the counter to tower behind you. "Then why cant they wait until tomorrow.."
"Cause i wanna do it now..." you hum, trying to grab at the scoop besides the bowl. Franks large hand stopping the move in your tracks. Your shoudlers drop just a fraction, almost in anticipation as you sigh. The sound a little frustrated despite your usual enjoyment of the task at hand. "Besides.. Got too much energy to sleep frankie"
"Too much energy, that right?" he grumbles with a nod, head dropping down against your shoudler, tilted just slightly until you can feel the puffs of his breath on your neck. "My girls feelin all restless again.. So why didn't ya wake me like i told you last time, stead of this?"
You sigh, still trying to persevere with the trapped scoop. "Looked too comfortable.. Besides, you need the rest Frankie.. "
"Oh im the one needing the rest, sure." He huffs, breath puffing against your skin in a way that makes it prickle. A smile twitching at your lips at the feeling, his free arm coming to wrap around your middle, pulling your frame against the warmth of him. "what'd you say we get rid of that energy hm, fussy girl?" that hand squeezes your waist at the same moment his lips kiss that spot just below your ear.
Frank feels you shiver, smirking almost knowing against your skin, your tells far to obvious to him by now. "Gonna let your frankie take care of it? Get that restlessness gone?"
Its no more than ten minutes before frank does infact get that restlessness gone. The cookie dough abandoned into the fridge and sweats pushed beneath his knees. Thick cock bullying into your gummy walls in controlled rocks of his hips that make you sob quietly.
Your fingers, clean of the dough thanks to franks mouth, grasping the counter tight as your legs tremble beneath your weight, hardly holding you up. Panties and sleepwear looped around one ankle as you shuffle slightly, making frank chuckle. "Gettin all shakey now, You close sweetheart? Gonna be a good girl and cum on that cock f'me?" voice rough as his arm tugs you back against his chest; holding you up and not giving you an escape to the pleasure that blooms in your core.
Its not long before he's luring you into an orgasm, ached against his chest as his fingers draw figure eights to your poor clit. "Yeah, yeah there it is, you give it to me sweetheart" Bouncing you back against him until the heat of his own release paints your insides, your head drooping forward tiredly.
"There we go.. I know.. I know sweetheart" he rumbles, making quick work of tucking himself back into his sweats as he softens. Hands coming back to your hips to tug your underwear and sleep bottoms back up.
Fuzzy headed and pumped full as you let him spin you round, picking your frame up until your still shakey legs wrap weakly on his hips and hes carrying you down the hall. "lets get you back to bed, All tired out now huh?"
Its fair to say you sleep better than you have in a while after that, cookies abandoned until the afternoon after a morning spent content in Franks arms. Perhaps next time you'll take his advice and let him help..
And with our dear dear Matthew? Well, how dare you interrupt his cuddle time..
"Now Sweetpea.." Matt tuts, making you startle as you turn to him stood against the far counter, unable to hide the smirk that graces his lips at the kick up of your heartbeat. "What did we talk about?"
"Matty! You gasp, flour covered hand over your chest. "You scared me."
He makes no moves, arms still crossed. "Asked you a question baby.."
You sigh, head angled down slightly as you shuffle quietly on your feet, voice a little guilty. "You Uh.. Said i wasnt to.. To bake in the middle of the night.."
"Mhmm.. Thats right." Matt nods, stepping closer to trap you against the counter. Your back pressing into the cool marble."So you wanna let me know why I've woken up to your side of the bed cold.. House smellin of sugar and cinnamon?"
"Cause.. " you start defeated; thoroughly caught as two of his fingers tilt your jaw up. A smug expression on his face at the way you melt into the touch slightly. "Cause i was baking.. In the middle of the night.. Again."
He hums, other hand making its away up your arm. "I know.. And you know i cant sleep comfortably without you.. So what're we going to do about that hm?"
"goin to.. To let me finish up.. N ill come back to bed?.." you try a little mischievously and matt cant deny it amuses him. Defiant and cheeky, thats you alright.
Except, it doesnt amuse him enough. Doesnt make him huff out the usual laugh you love. Instead his stance remains stoic, unbreaking. Too tired and unwilling to let you play your game- this messy kitchen situation is breaking into his nightly cuddle time and Matthew Murdock does not play about that with you.
"Oh good try.. Real good try sweetpea.." he coos, leaning down to kiss your forehead with something much more tender than his tone of voice. Grip on your shoulder tightening just enough to allow him to push your frame around to the couch. "But No.. No were gonna get you tired out instead. Use up all that energy in a different way.. "
And much like Frank, Matt uses up that energy quickly.
Cinnamon and sugar still hanging in the air as it mixes with the scent of sex. The honey sweet of your arousal coating his lap, your thighs, slick and shiney. The sloppy sounds from your gooey cunt sending that extra spark of embarrassment down your spine.
"Mhm there you go, that's it sweetie." matt grins, hands on your waist as he helps bounce you down on him. Plush thighs bracketing his hips as you ride him desperately. "Fucking yourself on my cock like a good girl. Feels so good doesnt it?"
Your heartbeat pounds erratically in both matts ears and your own, sweat clinging to your skin from the enthusiasm. "Matt- matty please.."
"Please what sweetpea? What'd you want me to do?" he smirks, a low chuckle sounding out at the way you shiver in his hold. He can feel the tight clenches of your cunt, feel the ripple of your walls as they quiver around him. Your close, so fucking close, but your finally getting tired. Exhaustion slowing your pace considerably.
"Oh.. Oh i get it.." Matt murmers, dropping back against the couch cushions slightly. His hips jut out a little further, feet flat on the floor as he runs a hand up your spine until it rests against the back of your neck and pushes. Scruffing you just slightly, like a misbehaved animal. "My baby's gettin sleepy now huh? Needs me to do all the work.."
You dont have time to think, let alone respond before his cock punches deep and fast. Your squeals muffled against the juncture of his neck as you little but take it. Tears brewing in your eyes as they flutter and roll. "G-gon..gonna cum, oh fuck Matty!"
Matt just grins, hand pushing your head further into his skin as you squeak and squeal, body going lax in his grip as your orgasm crests. "Yeah. Yeah you do it. Just gotta cum alright? Cum on that cock like a big brave girl, then we'll getcha to bed.."
That night you hardly remember even ending up in bed, the last thing you recall being Matt pounding inside of you so quick it was dizzying. Wearing you out so perfectly that it keeps you held in his arms past the pestering blair of your usual alarm. Cinnamon gone from the air now as your half finished dough still sits on the counter abandoned. Your soft, past out snores drawing a smug smile back to Matts lips.

buckle up folks, it's deep dive about chakotay hours!

season 2, "initiations"
@isthereintruthnobeauty1968 asked a question about chakotay in this post about the scene above:
for an infamous leader of an anti-federation rebel group he seems to firmly believe in its authority and ideals And to have (at least externally) adjusted to the blended crew seamlessly. what's the deal?
see, i don't think chakotay ever wanted to be a rebel, or even a leader for that matter.
he wanted to be a starfleet officer.

season 2, "tattoo"
chakotay enrolls in the acadamy as a teenager as young as he legally can ("tattoo"). he tells seven ("one small step") that he joined starfleet because of his love of paleontology, and he only turned away from that out of responsibility to the maquis and now to voyager.
[get a snack for this one y'all]

season 6, "one small step"
it doesn't come up often, but whenever chakotay talks about his pre-voyager starfleet career, it's always about first contact or archaeology. in "emanations," he compares their exploration of an alien burial moon to a mission he went on as an ensign, all while demonstrating his anthropology expertise. add that to him nerding out in "blink of an eye," "one small step," the dinosaur episode, and a bunch of other examples, he's a social scientist both by training and by inclination.
in the original star trek, they had an "A&A officer," a specialist in archaeology, anthropology, and ancient civilizations:

tos season 2, "who mourns for adonais?"
we never hear that term again, but that's the role chakotay often fills on voyager, and he's very happy whenever he gets to do it.
now, realistically, i don't know how much time pre-maquis chakotay would have spent in a blue uniform, because those skills would not make him an obvious choice to lead a maquis cell. ro laren sets up his character (unnamed) in tng as a tactical specialist who resigns to join the maquis:

tng season 7, "preemptive strike"
(which is a very polite and noble way to do it, as compared to eddington's defection in ds9.)
if he was in fact ro’s teacher (i think so, despite a stardate conflict in some later dialogue), it seems very in-character to me that chakotay could have started out pursuing a sciences path before showing an aptitude for piloting, strategy, and/or command. given what we know of him, regardless of his own passions or preferences, if a senior officer noticed his skills and encouraged him to change career tracks, he would do it.
teen angst era aside, he respects authority. he argues against dogmatic ideology when it's inflexible to the needs of the moment, but he likes working within a command hierarchy, and for better or worse, he is easily swayed by charismatic leaders.

season 1, "caretaker"
not only does he yield to janeway's authority on voyager before she even asks him to, and then molds himself into the kind of first officer he thinks will help her most, he does the same thing with annorax in "year of hell." tom is the voice of ethical conscience and reason in that episode, and he organizes the rebellion—against chakotay's orders!
there's so much going on here:

season 4, "year of hell part 2"
despite his father's perceptions of him as a contrarian, chakotay only rebels as a last resort. he would genuinely rather not. he clearly talked about the maquis cause with ro and others before he left—and i bet that's why he resigned to a starfleet admiral in person, to make one last appeal. his preference is to try and change systems from within.
not to west wing about it, but chakotay is only The Guy when he has to be—he wants to be the guy the guy counts on.
(hot take: with how he rationalizes the calculated sacrifices annorax is making in "year of hell," i don't think chakotay would have left starfleet for the maquis if it wasn't personal. but it was personal, so here we are!)
maquis chakotay is a disillusioned idealist, but he's never that disillusioned. he believes in the stated ideals of the federation, sometimes more than janeway does.

season 3, "scorpion part 1"
and it's a fundamental character trait that he looks for the best in people and situations, often to his own detriment (tuvok, seska, annorax, that time janeway and tuvok and tom all lie to him for half a season, the list goes on).
and it's easy to see good in starfleet, especially when most of his career was during the height of federation utopia before "the best of both worlds," at which point starfleet remembered it's also a defensive force and started building the defiant—which was the very first starfleet ship ever designed solely for combat.
the cardassian situation in tng is shown as an aberration in a largely peaceful era. the off-screen "border wars" were fought by officers who expected to go their entire careers never firing a phaser.

tng season 4, "the wounded"
for decades since making peace with the klingons, and with the romulans keeping to themselves, starfleet has been mostly goodhearted nerds who are committed to exploring and making friends. even if chakotay was a tactical officer, that was the starfleet he signed up for and served.
and, in fact, the reason why the federation abandoned the colonists in the dmz in the first place and wouldn’t help bajor during the cardassian occupation is because the federation and starfleet are devoted to the ideals of peace and noninterference to a fault.

tng season 5, "ensign ro"
chakotay doesn't object to starfleet's actions, but its inaction.
which, side note, is why janeway's choice in "caretaker" makes it easy for him to rally behind her. by choosing to protect the ocampa, even though it's a huge sacrifice and puts her in a prime directive gray area, janeway specifically addressed the exact trust gap he has with starfleet.

season 1, "caretaker"
that's what he wanted them to do back home!
chakotay defends his starfleet uniform in the kazon scene that inspired this whole essay, and he believes what he's saying, because he's right: that's not what a starfleet uniform represents, either in theory or in practice. especially in the mid-24th century, regardless of the political issues, the federation and starfleet do not conquer planets or enslave alien cultures by force.
(of course, they wouldn't have helped the kazon free themselves either, but that's not the question on the table.)
to op's main question: it's an interesting (or boring?) doylist choice to make chakotay such a platonic ideal of a Starfleet Officer™️ (which, for the record, has always included going off-leash at the expense of one's career whenever ethics overwhelm regulations).

season 1, "prime factors"
star trek went to a lot of trouble to create the maquis for the voyager premise of two crews... and then quickly brady-bunch'd them into one happy family and let deep space nine wrangle the maquis problem instead. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

chakotay being so willing to put himself and his crew into starfleet uniforms (even though some members of both crews objected to it) cheated us out of some potentially rich drama, but it does hold water with what we see of him as a character on screen, and his relationship with starfleet. it has disappointed him, but he still believes that it's a force for good, and chakotay will always err on the side of seeing the good in something and thinking he can change it for the better from within.
--
tl;dr: chakotay is a starfleet officer by training and at heart, who was temporarily out of uniform because his family and tribe happened to be directly in the middle of starfleet's messiest ethical quagmire.
he made a personal, moral decision to join the maquis, not because he was anti-federation, but because that was the only way to protect federation civilians—which was part of his starfleet oath to begin with. he worked hard when he was younger to earn this uniform and i think, in spite of everything, he feels honestly proud to get to wear it again.

THE SPACE YOU LEFT BEHIND - SATORU GOJO
“Will you stay with me?” It’s like a wish waiting to be granted. “Forever.”
pairing: satoru gojo x sorcerer! reader
summary: indeed, after suguru has defected, you’ve been trying to heal yourself and to not loose your mind. but healing ourselves is always harder than helping others, isn’t it? but don’t forget the goal of a sorcerer: protect humans at the risk of your life. and sometimes, death is closer that we think it is.
warnings: heavy angst, injuries, mention of death, blood, depression, eating disorder, pinning, mention of vomit, mention of cigarettes, mei mei, nanami & shoko make and appearance, mention of yaga & suguru, the lion king movie mentionned, jujutsu sorcerers’ life sucks, the story takes shape after suguru's defection, bittersweet/happy ending.
wc: 5,039
When you committed to the world of exorcism after middle school, you hadn’t realized just how much you had underestimated the darker sides of this life, where exorcists dedicate their lives to protecting humans — the primary source of the curses’ existence.
Suguru was right, wasn’t he?
It’s because of them that your classmates died. It’s also their fault that your best friend deserted school after massacring an entire village during a mission.
That put an end to all the memories you cherished so dearly, kept, and illustrated in a diary.
Sunny afternoons after class, eating ice cream with your friends Shoko, Suguru, and Satoru. The setting sun signaling the end of a fulfilling day, leading into sleepless nights of sleepovers, where Satoru brought piles of sweets ready to infest your mouths with cavities as Suguru told scary stories about his hometown.
Or shopping days with Shoko, dragging the two boys along to test makeup products on them — the ones you’d never buy considering their outrageous prices.
Or those dangerous missions where you hunted curses, tracking them down to uphold your values: protecting the weak to maintain order and peace.
Such a beautiful motto, isn’t it?
A motto meant to help you, guide you, and support you so you wouldn’t lose sight of your goals.
So why did it fail so much that your once-beloved diary now sits open on your desk, collecting dust since the last time you opened it — not to add a new memory, but rather to look at the last ones you wrote.
Suguru’s departure left a void far more significant and meaningful than you had expected, didn’t it?
Life feels duller. The sky no longer seems as sunny — replaced by a grayish one, heavy with dark clouds threatening storms that mirror your emotions. If you had no tears left to cry, the rain would suffice to push you into your room after classes and missions, both as exhausting as your mind, consumed by draining thoughts.
The silence left by Suguru’s absence is far louder than all the times you screamed into his voicemail after he stopped responding to you. Of course, eventually, you gave up. Not out of choice.
Simply because he had blocked you.
And when changing SIM cards proved futile, you quickly realized through the automatic response that the number you sought was no longer in service.
It felt like all your regrets had come crashing down at once. But in truth, they had only arrived right on time.
If you had helped Suguru the way he needed, he wouldn’t have left.
He wouldn’t have been condemned.
You wouldn’t have stopped eating, stopped living your life the way you were told you should, or started losing your friends one by one.
Suguru was the first.
Shoko isn’t the second. The brunette seems to hold up much better — although the number of cigarettes she smokes daily has doubled — she doesn’t withdraw into herself the way you do. So, you’re sure you won’t lose her... right?
And as for Satoru… Will he be the next to leave, one way or another?
Or will it be you?
Either way, you’re losing yourselves. It’s been a while since you stopped keeping track of how long it’s been since you last saw Satoru after Suguru’s departure.
Mr. Yaga confirmed that he hadn’t assigned him a single mission — the situation critical, delicate, and as fragile as a flower filled with poison that could make The Strongest falter at the slightest misstep or careless move.
He could very well be dead, and no one would know.
“So… you haven’t heard from him either?” Nanami murmurs, his deep, low voice almost swallowed by the muddy ground and heavy rain that poured as much as your overwhelmed mind.
You shake your head. “Not a single sign of life,” you mumble with the tip of your lips.
The two of you are on your way back to the school after a long mission assigned by your teacher, Yaga. It took you the entire day, but at least your mind feels lighter, despite the constant fatigue weighing on your shoulders like the weight of the world.
As the rain falls harder on you both, Nanami takes the initiative to open his black umbrella, holding it over your head as you stare at your mud-stained shoes.
“Almost three weeks.”
Your friend’s voice sounds distant, like hearing someone underwater.
Your head jerks up. “Hmm?”
“He hasn’t been out in almost three weeks,” Nanami repeats, his gaze fixed straight ahead. The crunching of your shoes and his on the gravel fills the silence before he continues. “Yaga gave him some time, but it’s getting harder to assign missions to others who are on Satoru’s level, you know.”
You don’t react to his words. Of course, he’s right.
Just as he’s wrong.
While Satoru’s behavior of shutting himself away without contact for so long isn’t responsible, his reasons remain entirely valid.
He just lost someone dear to him.
So, can you blame him?
But perhaps it’s time to bring your friend back, even if it means risking losing him — and yourself — in the process.
~~~~
You knock three times on Satoru’s dorm door.
A dead silence answers you.
You try again.
The same response.
So, you try the handle, testing whether it’s locked. However, it gives way under your hand, and a moment later, you step through the doorway into an unrecognizable environment.
Indeed, your best friend’s room — usually adorned with decorations and elements that so vividly reflected Satoru’s lively personality — is now unrecognizable. The windows, typically allowing sunlight to flood in and brighten the room, now shroud it in an ominous darkness. On the floor, clothes, likely dirty, are scattered at your feet. Satoru’s desk is covered in a visible layer of dust despite the dim light. And finally, on the bed you’ve always known, rests a long shape wrapped in thick blankets.
With his back turned to you, Satoru seems to be asleep from where you stand, his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. Even when you call his name, he doesn’t show any sign of awareness.
So, you close the door and kneel by the side of his bed.
“Satoru?” you murmur, placing a gentle hand on a shoulder covered by your friend’s indigo comforter.
The slight shiver running through him proves he’s very much awake.
But was his mind equally present?
“Satoru, were you sleeping?” you ask, shaking him carefully.
He doesn’t respond, not even with a gesture.
Your throat tightens in the face of a situation you’ve never had to face with him before.
How do you help someone who’s in the same situation as you?
In fact, it’s even worse.
Satoru is Suguru’s other half. Their symbiotic relationship always stopped you from seeing further with Satoru, leaving you questioning what he truly felt for Suguru. Because deep down, you knew you didn’t stand a chance. You’d never hold a place as important as Suguru’s in Satoru’s heart.
So, you chose to fill the void in your heart with love for him. It’s far from enough, but you’d rather not dwell on it. Unrequited love always ends this way, doesn’t it?
You straighten up just enough to lie down on the small remaining space on Satoru’s bed, carefully rubbing your friend’s arm to avoid startling him while offering the overflow of affection that aches to be reciprocated but, for now, can only warm the albino.
You don’t dare complain about the stale smell in the room, prioritizing Satoru’s comfort above all else. You drape your arm around him as he breathes in and out with a shaky rhythm, ignoring the cold of the room that freezes you just as much as the rain from earlier did.
Perhaps half an hour passes.
Maybe an hour.
Or more.
Or even just ten minutes.
The oppressive silence of the room quickly catches up to the sleep deprivation you so desperately need to cure. The cold vanishes. In the end, it doesn’t matter, right?
The only thing that matters is having Satoru in your arms, no matter what, his back pressed securely against you as your breaths synchronize, and your heartbeats merge in a way you’ve always dreamed of.
But when you flutter your eyes open, the absence of cold is quickly replaced by body warmth. Satoru’s thick comforter is draped over you, and his body is pressed against yours.
But what strikes you most is that he’s no longer facing away.
Satoru, his eyelids closed, breathes softly and slowly, the shadow of haunted dark circles staining his angelic face.
You’re about to sit up when Satoru, still without opening his eyes, slides a hand over your arm.
“Don’t move,” he mumbles.
And his raspy voice nearly gives you a heart attack.
There’s only one way for someone to have that effect.
And more than anything, the slight swelling and redness of Satoru’s pale eyelids confirm your suspicions.
Resting your head back onto the pillow, your forehead lightly brushes against Satoru’s.
“Can you look at me?” Your lips move in a near-inaudible whisper.
Almost imperceptibly, he shakes his head.
“Why?”
He doesn’t answer.
“Satoru,” you insist, maintaining the same melancholic gentleness.
So you take the initiative to slowly raise your hands, bringing them toward his soft face to gently lift his eyelids. But what you see causes a crack in your heart, one akin to the shattering of ice under the raw heat of fire.
A small, wet pearl escapes from one of his eyes, deliberately rolling down his cheek, crossing his nose, and vanishing at the corner of his mouth.
Without a word, Satoru opens his eyes, and the embodiment of pain meets your distressed gaze.
His cerulean irises, usually alive with mischief, are as dark as an abyssal chasm. It’s as though a curse itself has taken hold of his gaze, condemning anyone who dares to meet his bloodshot eyes.
Your eyebrows slowly knit together, and with your heart already shattered, you decide to wrap your arms around him, pulling an unrecognizable Satoru against you as his chest releases a trembling breath and your neck grows damp from the occasional drops of warmth falling from his face.
“I’m here,” you mutter in his ear. “I’m here no matter what.”
Your eyelids close slowly, letting the tears you’d held back finally roll down your own cheeks.
Once again, perhaps ten minutes, half an hour, or even the entire afternoon passes before you finally decide to sit up, gently pulling an exhausted Satoru into your arms.
And to your surprise, he allows it.
You help him stand, supporting him with an arm around his body despite the height difference, and guide him to the bathroom. The decision had been made a while ago, even if your consciousness hadn’t fully caught up. After all, you would have wanted someone to do the same for you.
But aren’t we always better at caring for others than for ourselves?
Without protest — even though the idea of seeing Satoru naked might have made you blush last month — immersing him in the warm bath you’ve carefully prepared doesn’t feel as awkward as you’d expected. You’ve never seen him without at least his boxers, so out of respect, you avert your eyes as the poor boy settles into the hot water.
You grab a bottle of shampoo lying around in Satoru’s bathroom, squeezing out a small amount to wash his angelic hair. Despite having likely neglected his hygiene as much as you have lately, your friend is in desperate need of someone to care for him.
Satoru, his eyes still closed, seems almost asleep under your slow, gentle, and careful movements.
It looks like you’re washing a real dead man.
But perhaps part of him has been dead ever since Suguru left? Perhaps a piece of him vanished the moment Suguru was gone?
The faint hum vibrating from Satoru’s lips reassures you that he’s still conscious. You take it as a good sign that he’s relaxing. Your nails softly scratch his scalp, and he lets out a low groan of satisfaction. The foam grows thicker as you continue to massage Satoru’s head.
You rinse the shampoo from his hair with warm water, droplets trickling down his perfect face.
One of those droplets slides just below his eye, so imperceptibly that you wonder if you’d have noticed it at all if you weren’t gazing at his face with almost religious reverence.
Using a washcloth, you pick up Satoru’s body wash this time, lathering it across his skin, applying slightly more pressure to tense areas in need of a soothing massage. Soft sighs escape his nose, signaling that you can continue without bothering him.
After several massages where you pay special attention to certain spots, you fetch a robe, wrapping it around Satoru’s now-clean body. He’s like new, more ready now to hold onto a semblance of consciousness.
But one thing that strikes you is that Satoru, despite being entirely naked and in such a vulnerable state of weakness, allowed you to care for him without opening his eyes even once.
With a faint, gentle smile, you guide Satoru back to his room, grabbing some clean, comfortable clothes for him while he collapses onto his bed under the weight of the world on his shoulders. You help him into each piece of clothing, his body too weak to move as usual, almost lifeless. Then, you lead him to your room, crossing the school’s corridors so he can rest in the clean and organized space you’ve managed to create after pulling yourself together following your own depressive episode of endless, self-destructive days.
Your room is a true haven — tidy, clean, and orderly.
And so your freshly made bed with its crisp sheets seems to call to Satoru. The softness of the mattress cradles him as you drape your immaculate comforter over him.
Like laying a deceased loved one to rest in their coffin, Satoru keeps his eyes closed, his face void of expression, yet with a weariness that seems to have lifted ever so slightly.
~~~~
“How long?”
“I already told you.”
“Liar.”
Satoru pushes the food tray toward you, the arm of the mechanical table brushing against your torso. “I’m not hungry anyway.”
You sigh, the exhaustion of the past few days weighing on you like a heavy, unpleasant rain.
“First of all, you just got back from a mission where you were inches from dying if Shoko hadn’t been there. Second, you refuse to tell me how long it’s been since you’ve eaten — unless it’s been a month — and now you’re saying you’re not hungry?”
Satoru, lying under the pristine white sheets of his infirmary bed, simply turns his head away. It’s as if he’s acting like a machine.
Mechanical movements, curt responses, and barely any signs of life.
During one of the recent missions assigned to him by Principal Yaga after weeks of absence, Satoru resumed his routine. He sleeps, does his missions, and returns to sleep in his room. Ever since you took the time to clean and organize his room, you haven’t exchanged more than a sentence. The only memory that still haunts you is the blood-red hue of Satoru’s eyes that night in his room.
The void left by Suguru has wreaked havoc.
And while you’ve managed to patch yourself up — or so you think — you’re now trying to help your friend in need. But how do you help someone who refuses to speak?
“And ‘I don’t know’ isn’t an answer,” you add in the face of his silence, rubbing your face, which feels warmer than usual. Perhaps it’s the heat of the room? December is a month where illness comes quickly. But it’s nothing, you reassure yourself.
“You’re flushed.”
“I know.”
“That wasn’t a question.”
Both of you avert your gaze, equally annoyed and concerned with one another.
“When was the last time you even slept? You spend more time watching over my sleep and my meals than looking at yourself in a mirror. You look like a Halloween costume.”
Ouch.
You glance at your reflection in the mirror near the nurse’s desk, and despite Satoru’s harsh words, your state seems even worse than his.
You’ve lost weight lately. The dark hollows under your eyes mirror your grueling schedule, where you spend most of your day juggling missions, watching over Satoru, and helping the school with any task.
Like an escape, you’ve found any excuse to avoid being alone. Especially with yourself.
But isn’t that exactly what Suguru did? The poor guy had no one to talk to, and the one time he tried, you thought he was just exhausted from swallowing curses. That was when he broke down and sobbed in front of you.
The memory alone stings your eyes. And unfortunately for you, you’re not in any shape to hold back the tears threatening to spill down your cheeks.
You stand abruptly, turning your head away to avoid showing the cracks in your courageous facade to your best friend.
“Eat. I have a mission in half an hour. I’ll be back tonight.”
As you slip out of the infirmary, Satoru painfully sit up in his bed, opening his mouth to call after you, to say something. Anything. His words were harsh and cruel, while you’ve been patient with him, caring for him more than for yourself.
But he hates it.
Because you only remind him of what Suguru used to do. When he felt terrible, Suguru helped him despite his own pain, despite wanting to vomit up the curses he’d consumed or even die. Suguru cared about his appetite, just as you do now with Satoru. The same with his sleep, his recklessness during missions.
So he doesn’t want to lose you, at the risk of dying a second time.
~~~~
That same evening, you don’t return.
And Satoru notices immediately, because at bedtime, around 10 PM, you usually stop by his room — even more so now that he’s in the infirmary.
Missions take time. So Satoru reassures himself, thinking that you simply took longer and that by the next morning, you’d be by his side to check on him. He would apologize. He’d ask for forgiveness and try to understand the reason behind the instability in your voice before you left earlier.
Did he hurt you that much?
His train of thought is interrupted by urgent voices barking orders, and Shoko putting on her apprentice doctor’s coat as she grabs a spell manual on her way out, meeting Satoru’s confused gaze.
And he understands immediately who it’s about.
Despite his still weakened state and his inability to perform Reverse Curse Technique for some time now, Satoru pulls on his exorcist uniform, leaving his sunglasses on the bedside table, and follows Shoko and the team of medics heading toward a school car. But he swiftly grabs Shoko’s wrist.
If something happened to you, taking a stupid car would only lead to a certain death.
With a gaze as panicked as it is void, Satoru questions his friend.
“Mei Mei went to check on what happened,” Shoko murmurs gravely. “The mission was simple. She should’ve been back over five hours ago.” She points to the time on her watch.
1:20 AM.
Did he fall asleep while lost in thought? How had so much time passed since he noticed your absence earlier that night?
“And you think taking more time in this car is enough?” Satoru spits his words, his voice low but echoing nonetheless into the snowy night as flurries begin to fall around them. “Just tell me you want her dead now, then.”
Shoko glances at the waiting car.
“Then what do you suggest?” she asks, narrowing her eyes, scrutinizing her friend from head to toe before yanking her wrist back sharply. “Look at you. You can barely stand.”
“I can still teleport. You’re far more competent than these clowns,” Satoru replies in the same tone, grabbing her wrist again. “And let me remind you, we cannot lose her.” The warning in his voice sounds like a threat.
It’s only when Shoko finally relents that Satoru teleports them both after she gives him the location where Mei Mei last reported finding you. The pressure of the spell makes them feel like they’re being sucked through a narrow tube, or squeezed in a vice. When they finally arrive at your location, it’s with a pop sound, like a bubble bursting free.
Releasing Shoko’s wrist the very second they arrive, Satoru scans the surroundings — then freezes.
Mei Mei’s blue hair is bent over a body on the ground. In the dim light of the night, only the moon’s rays illuminate a pool resembling wine.
And Satoru would’ve prayed for it to be only wine.
He and Shoko rush toward Mei Mei, who steps aside to face them with a furrowed brow, her expression a foreboding omen.
“Internal bleeding,” she announces to Shoko.
The words ring like a gong in Satoru’s ears, now buzzing. His paralyzed body stands mere inches from you. Your half-closed eyes stare blankly into the void, your arms lying limply at your sides, and a streak of dried blood stains your cheek. Despite the presence of your friends, you don’t react.
Not even when Satoru says your name.
Once.
Twice.
Three times.
And as many times as it takes before Shoko and Mei Mei push him back, as he struggles to try to hold you in his arms, his hoarse voice cracking, begging you not to leave him.
For the first time in what feels like an eternity, Satoru Gojo, whose senses granted by his Six Eyes had long been dulled, awakens once again.
He hears your heart beating faintly. The pulse of your arteries, the successive waves of blood pushed by your struggling heart. Your shallow breaths slipping through damaged lungs. The warmth of your blood slowly leaking life away.
Please, no…
As long as it took for Satoru to recover a fraction of his powers, the same amount of time seems to pass while Shoko works quickly to stop your hemorrhaging.
He knows because he no longer hears the blood flowing out of your body. Your pulse has slowed, and though still weak, your heart beats with slightly more determination.
That determination, Satoru perceives as a flame.
A flame you refuse to let extinguish, because he knows you’re fighting not to pass on.
And if you no longer have the strength, Satoru will be the lighter forcing you to keep fighting. He will stay by your side as long as you need him.
And he will refuse to die a second time — unless it’s for you.
~~~~
A few days later.
The roles have reversed.
Satoru, fully recovered from his mission for a while now, devotes all his time to your care. He’s moved his belongings to the infirmary, where you remain recuperating. He insisted on pushing a bed right up against yours to monitor your sleep, your eating habits, and your overall well-being.
Every movement you make is instantly picked up by his Six Eyes.
Your survival after your mission was nothing short of a miracle for Satoru.
A prayer he made — and one that was answered.
“You tired?” he asks softly, tucking a stray strand of your hair behind your ear. His cerulean eyes linger on your still-fresh bandages, and a bitter pang squeezes at his heart.
You shake your head despite the telltale dark circles under your eyes. “I’m feeling better.”
“Bored?” he guesses then, raising an eyebrow slightly, his tone tinged with amusement. Is he planning something?
A small smile tugs at your lips. “Got something in mind?” you reply, curiosity sparking enough to make you want to laugh genuinely.
Lying beside you in his own infirmary bed pressed against yours, Satoru gently takes your hand in his. He lifts it to chest level, absentmindedly playing with your fingers. “I could put on a movie for us if you’d like…”
“What kind of movie? If you even think about suggesting that cursed Terrifier again, I swear I’ll strang—”
Satoru bursts into laughter at your disgusted expression. His chest shakes with every sound, lifting the weight of any lingering pain in his heart.
“I was thinking more along the lines of the new The Lion King movie,” he says with a mischievous grin.
“Mufasa, you mean?” Your face lights up for a moment. “But the movie has just been released,” you add, frowning slightly. “We can’t go anywhere.”
“Who said anything about going somewhere?” He wraps one long arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer just before planting a chaste kiss on your temple — a gesture that nearly makes your lungs give out.
Somehow, Satoru always manages to surprise you.
Despite the movie’s exclusive release at cinemas, half an hour later you find yourself watching it.
Nestled against Satoru under some thicker blankets he brought, the two of you share snacks scattered across your laps. The only light in the infirmary is the soft glow of the film projector casting the movie onto a pristine wall.
Your cheek rests against Satoru’s chest, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat serving as the perfect lullaby to lull you to sleep. On top of that, his long fingers gently scratch your scalp, soothing you further into relaxation.
The moment feels so perfect you almost mistake it for a dream — but no.
Right now, it’s as if the depressive haze that had weighed down both you and Satoru has been blown away, replaced by a fleeting moment of happiness wrapped in the cocoon of this night.
Just like your feelings, the situation between you and Satoru is undefined and confusing. A shared closeness restored, mutual personal care, and a clear attachment to each other.
It seems like friendship, doesn’t it?
But then, why does your hand, resting on your friend’s chest, tremble at the thought of sliding around the back of his neck to pull him closer—close enough for your lips to finally meet his?
Feeling your trembling hand, Satoru shifts his attention away from the movie to look down at you. “Sweetheart?”
Your eyes meet his, drowning in the deep ocean of blue they hold.
With every passing second, you try to speak, to respond, to confess everything. To tell him everything. Yet, with your lips parted, all you can manage is a soft whisper:
“Nothing.”
~~~~
December 25th.
All of Tokyo Jujutsu High has gathered amidst the scents of warm food, the laughter of groups of friends, the unwrapping of gifts, and the feeling of family.
Yet, Satoru feels like something is missing.
This December 25th marks the first Christmas you, Shoko, and Satoru spend without Suguru.
So what’s the point of celebrating? What is Suguru doing right now? Is he spending such a special day all alone?
Alone, outside the school’s festive hall, Satoru stands bundled in a winter coat, snow as white as his hair delicately falling onto his frame. He’s leaning against a wall, as if that simple act could help him stay upright.
His throat tightens.
He wants Suguru back.
But he knows all too well that he won’t have him.
So Satoru doesn’t celebrate Christmas when the one source of his joy has vanished.
Inside the hall, you’re laughing wholeheartedly with a few friends, a glass of champagne in hand and a large scarf draped over your shoulders for warmth.
But amidst the small crowd, the one person who holds your heart is nowhere to be found.
Your smile slowly fades as your eyes frantically scan the room for Satoru. You excuse yourself hastily and begin to search — the hall, the restroom — before finally heading toward the door to the courtyard.
Almost sprinting, you step out into the biting December cold.
And there he is.
With measured steps, you move to stand beside him. He doesn’t budge, even as you gently wipe the dried tears from his face while he sniffles absentmindedly, his nose reddened by the sharp chill.
“Do you believe that he’s thinking of us right now?” Satoru murmurs, his voice rough and low.
“I’m sure of it,” you whisper softly in reply, pulling a tissue from your pocket and holding it to his nose so he can blow. A faint smile tugs at your lips as he thanks you with one last sniffle.
You’re about to put the tissue away when Satoru abruptly but tenderly pulls you into his arms, pressing you firmly against him.
“Satoru?” Your eyes search his, confused, as he leans his face as close to yours as possible, nearly sending your heart into overdrive when his long, slender nose brushes against yours.
“I love you,” he whispers, his tone carrying a small smile.
Those three little words leave you speechless, your lips parted in shock at the confession and the sincerity behind it.
It’s as if your entire being comes alive again, breaking free.
After so long without crying, it only takes those words to bring tears back to the surface. Salty streams trail down your cheeks as your face twists, trying to hold back sobs.
“I love you too,” you cry, your voice trembling all the same.
Satoru, his own smile tinged with fragility, wipes your face just as you did for him. His thumbs gently rub your cheeks in a bittersweet comfort.
And in a synchronized motion, your lips connect, pressing against each other with an intensity that makes your souls whirl like the wind does with the falling snow.
Every time your lips part to end a kiss or catch your breath, you find each other again in the next second, as if eternity had tried to keep you apart. The cold ceases to exist around you; the warmth of your finally united souls is enough to melt the ice that had formed within you since Suguru’s departure.
Reluctantly, you break the kiss to catch your breath, your eyes no longer shining with tears, but with love this time.
Neither of you pulls away from the closeness you share. Your bodies speak for you, the silence between you filled with mutual understanding.
Satoru clears his throat. “Will you stay with me?”
It’s like a wish waiting to be granted.
“Forever.”
Mc inserts x TWST characters (Part two)(Part three)
(basically non-yuu pairings I think about instead of my inbox :p)
Ignyhide vice!Mc x Jamil Viper
Mc is probably twisted from one of the little demon goons, and it makes your contrast with Jamil charmingly obvious. You’re both vices in the basketball club with an outside connection to your wardens (you figured a physical activity’ll ward Idia’s eye away) and you both hate your jobs to a comedic degree. The connection is actually really sweet and subtle!! Atleast until book 6 when Mc is complaining about their ego trippy boss while basically eating out of Jamil’s hand, feeding him information like the layout and hierarchy of styx,, as Idia’s super exclusive assistant it’s only fair to give your guests a full tour!
“geez! And he just gets so flippy-floppy, yknow? He’s got this thing about energy drinks now so I’ve been diluting them, it’s such a pain!”
“It might just be a defect with housewardens. Have you ever heard of the incompetency theory?”
Card soldier!Mc x Malleus Draconia
okay picture this- Mc is comepletely wasted and coming off the high from a holiday party that was totally killer. You wander into the woods past campus and find yourself at a little abandoned cottage, it’s like 100% cozy enough to chill in before stumbling back to the dorms. You continue heading there for pregames/drunken shenanigans, meeting up with some hot guy that hangs around sometimes. You’re fully blindsided when your “little buddy” is kicking heartslabyul ass during a spelldrive tourney..
“Yoooooo, Mally, you must be really fun at parties. Want ta’ go with me?”
“I can’t say I’ve ever been invited to a “rager” before, but it sounds.. enjoyable. I accept.”
Ignyhide freshman!Mc x Deuce Spade
You’re a shaking mess during your first track meet. It’s a graduation requirement to take at least one gym class before the end of freshman year, and you’d rather die than take flight class with all those scary seniors!! Your vice had enough sense to convince you into not dropping out, he’d said that “track is low stress!” And “you’ll enjoy it” >:( you can’t believe he’d lie to your face like that!! (Is this the AI revolution??) You guess it’s not too bad though, you’ve even started strength training with a new friend. He’s a little short tempered, but it could be a lot worse.
“hey, I had no idea ignyhide kids were into track! I thought it’d be too much sun,,”
“We’re not vampires. I wouldn’t clown on you for the tea in your thermos, so lay off.. heh, there’s totally a dormouse in there.”
Scarabia housewarden!Mc x Leona Kingscholar
It’s pretty rare to see Leona of all people in your reserved pool chair, but plenty of weird stuff’s happened during your senior case study. You’re this close to getting your big shiny diploma- and a little rest now and then won’t hurt anybody! Savanaclaw’s housewarden has only had his position since last year, and you’ve held yours through all four. After knowing of each other for so long, it’s only logical that you’d become good friends! (Not that he calls you that)
“So you’re graduating, huh? Hope that brat you chose’ll fill your shoes, you’ve worked pretty hard.”
“awh, you’re such a sap,, I’m sure you’ll like Kalim, he’s no idiot. I promise to visit whenever you decide to graduate, but it’ll be a lot easier if i get that job in the castle!”
Octavinelle sophmore!Mc x Jack Howl
Poor Jack has to deal with everyone else’s business on top of his own education, when does he get a break? That ramshackle prefect’s looking for leads on how to beat those twins in the water, and only one face comes to mind. You’re his coworker at his temp job, and you owe him a favour (atleast from your perspective, he doesn’t hold it over your head) because with your grades Azul’s got it out for you. He’s begging for you to help him out- and who are you to deny those puppy eyes?
“Jack you can’t tell him! The housewarden’ll make me quit, I need this job! :(((“
“woah, it’s not like I’m gonna blackmail you.. what kind of guy do you think I am?”
Savanaclaw freshman!Mc x Epel Felmier
You’re lost, stressed and so confused in your first year :( it feels like everything is going wrong all the time!! It’s probably like 10x worse because you’re very tall and so built, but nobody cares to peer up at the cute giraffe ears on your head! You’ve been challenged by so. many. seniors. (and you win against all of them, you’re no pushover) but you’re tired of the beef. Epel just thinks you’re the coolest person in the room, and is always saying he wants to get freaky fridayed with you. But he doesn’t get the struggle!! Atleast Jack cares enough to tell him you’re just not liking it at school, and it makes Epel kick into action- he’s not letting you drop out, so please wait until he transfers!!
Pomefiore Junior!Mc x Rook Hunt
You’re convinced that Rook c. Hunt is the worst guy in all of twisted wonderland (C for creep)! And it SUCKS because he went from your rebellious savanaclaw boytoy to.. whatever he is. (How’d you miss the warning signs when you were tongueing him??) You can always see his stupid bob in your peripheral- but you’ve rationalized that if you watch him, then he only sees what you want him to see! It’s keeping your friends close and your enemies closer, just until graduation. And it does work, until you realize you’ve given Rook an inch that he’s turned into a mile. You’ll probably never get rid of him now, but what’s the point anymore?
“Ah, mon cher! You always enchant me with your passionate gaze, I’m honoured to be the object of your attention!”
“uh.. sure thing, hon. Whatever you say.”
Diasomnia Senior!Mc x Idia Shroud
You’re a highly educated noble from the mysterious land of Briar Valley. You are poised, weirdly formal, and utterly incompetent with your newest area of study- contemporary technology. You’ve tried to convince yourself that it’s pointless, they don’t even use it at home! But if you want to travel anytime before the collapse of human civilization, it must be done. you’re insatiable with your thirst for knowledge, and completely enamoured with having first hand experience with every era of mortal tech. It also happens to be almost impossible to revive your “Kno-Keya” once it has decided to die. That is where Idia Shroud comes in.
“In exchange for the revival of my electronic mailing device i am willing to offer an extensive dowry befitting of your station and technological necromancy skill. Will it suffice?”
“I literally only charged your phone, uh.. WOAH, A DOWRY?? I don’t have the space for five horses!! I’m totally not prepped for the marriage route, I haven’t seen the wiki yet!”
OWO, you take prompts? How about this?
Danny was born a premature and with a heart defect. The Fenton's try to make a clone so they can get his heart transplanted without fear of organ rejection. But they end up making a full on baby and don't have it in them to kill another version of their son just to save their original boy. Danny ends up pulling through and the clone gets filed as a twin that no one noticed was still in when Maddie was in the hospital. So Maddie "had him at home" and went back so he could be medically examined. The new parents feel ashamed of what they initially were going to do and give the child to a cousin who couldn't conceive.
Tim Drake doesn't know he's adopted until a DNA test reveals that the 'Meta' running around Gotham is his 'twin brother'. And the babies he has, that he does babysitting gigs with, are his twin's 'children'.
(I don’t exactly take prompts, but I don’t mind if you send them. Also, I’m going to assume that the twin’s “children” are Dan and Dani, since that seems to be what people prefer.)
“… are you serious?” Tim asked through the phone.
“Yep,” Dick said, sounding like a mixture of amusement and concern, “How do you feel about it?”
Tim thought about it and then responded, “I guess it makes sense why my parents neglected me so much, since I’m adopted.”
“Awww, baby bird…”
“I’m fine, Dick,” Tim said. He picked Dante and set him on a baby chair. Said child stared at him with electric blue eyes, scowling with his pudgy cheeks as if he wanted to tear Tim apart with his nonexistent teeth. Tim rubbed his chubby cheek with a finger before moving away, still holding the phone to his ear as he picked up the other baby.
Dick continued, “Yeah… also, Bruce says that he’s sorry that he checked your blood without telling you.”
Tim snorted, “No, he didn’t.” Bruce was never sorry for that kind of stuff.
Dick sighed. “Yeah, I lied. Sorry. But he did look guilty! He didn’t want to tell you at first, but Jason convinced him so I’m the one telling you right now.”
Tim hummed, picking up little Ella, who was stubbornly holding onto a small cardboard box. Tim let her hold it and placed her onto the baby chair next to her brother, who immediately reached out for her. It was kinda funny seeing how clingy he was compared to his sister.
“We have more information too. We tracked down the new meta and we’ve been looking into his routes. We suspect that he’s living around here, in Bristol,” Dick said. “We think he’s living in an apartment, at XXX on XXXX street, possibly with a roommate named Jazz.”
Tim paused, suddenly hyper aware of the fact that he was in the same building, babysitting a bunch of kids on the same street, who also lived with another woman named Jazz. “Uhh. What else?”
“We think he lives on the third floor and possibly also works at a pizza delivery place? Or maybe a fast food restaurant? He’s been flying back and forth between two places besides the apartment.”
Tim began to sweat. “Uh… anything else?”
“There’s a high chance that his name is Danny Nightingale, and Jasmine Nightingale is in on the fact that he’s a meta.”
Fuck.
Tim looked at his niece and nephew with a new light, eyes wide. Ella beamed at him, giggling while Dante just glared.
Welp. At least Bruce would be happy to be a grandfather now. Even if it was to Tim’s secret meta twin brother.
Holy CRAP the UN Cybercrime Treaty is a nightmare
Support me this summer on the Clarion Write-A-Thon and help raise money for the Clarion Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers' Workshop!
If there's one thing I learned from all my years as an NGO delegate to UN specialized agencies, it's that UN treaties are dangerous, liable to capture by unholy alliances of authoritarian states and rapacious global capitalists.
Most of my UN work was on copyright and "paracopyright," and my track record was 2:0; I helped kill a terrible treaty (the WIPO Broadcast Treaty) and helped pass a great one (the Marrakesh Treaty on the rights of people with disabilities to access copyrighted works):
https://www.wipo.int/treaties/en/ip/marrakesh/
It's been many years since I had to shave and stuff myself into a suit and tie and go to Geneva, and I don't miss it – and thankfully, I have colleagues who do that work, better than I ever did. Yesterday, I heard from one such EFF colleague, Katitza Rodriguez, about the Cybercrime Treaty, which is about to pass, and which is, to put it mildly, terrifying:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/07/un-cybercrime-draft-convention-dangerously-expands-state-surveillance-powers
Look, cybercrime is a real thing, from pig butchering to ransomware, and there's real, global harms that can be attributed to it. Cybercrime is transnational, making it hard for cops in any one jurisdiction to handle it. So there's a reason to think about formal international standards for fighting cybercrime.
But that's not what's in the Cybercrime Treaty.
Here's a quick sketch of the significant defects in the Cybercrime Treaty.
The treaty has an extremely loose definition of cybercrime, and that looseness is deliberate. In authoritarian states like China and Russia (whose delegations are the driving force behind this treaty), "cybercrime" has come to mean "anything the government disfavors, if you do it with a computer." "Cybercrime" can mean online criticism of the government, or professions of religious belief, or material supporting LGBTQ rights.
Nations that sign up to the Cybercrime Treaty will be obliged to help other nations fight "cybercrime" – however those nations define it. They'll be required to provide surveillance data – for example, by forcing online services within their borders to cough up their users' private data, or even to pressure employees to install back-doors in their systems for ongoing monitoring.
These obligations to aid in surveillance are mandatory, but much of the Cybercrime Treaty is optional. What's optional? The human rights safeguards. Member states "should" or "may" create standards for legality, necessity, proportionality, non-discrimination, and legitimate purpose. But even if they do, the treaty can oblige them to assist in surveillance orders that originate with other states that decided not to create these standards.
When that happens, the citizens of the affected states may never find out about it. There are eight articles in the treaty that establish obligations for indefinite secrecy regarding surveillance undertaken on behalf of other signatories. That means that your government may be asked to spy on you and the people you love, they may order employees of tech companies to backdoor your account and devices, and that fact will remain secret forever. Forget challenging these sneak-and-peek orders in court – you won't even know about them:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/06/un-cybercrime-draft-convention-blank-check-unchecked-surveillance-abuses
Now here's the kicker: while this treaty creates broad powers to fight things governments dislike, simply by branding them "cybercrime," it actually undermines the fight against cybercrime itself. Most cybercrime involves exploiting security defects in devices and services – think of ransomware attacks – and the Cybercrime Treaty endangers the security researchers who point out these defects, creating grave criminal liability for the people we rely on to warn us when the tech vendors we rely upon have put us at risk.
This is the granddaddy of tech free speech fights. Since the paper tape days, researchers who discovered defects in critical systems have been intimidated, threatened, sued and even imprisoned for blowing the whistle. Tech giants insist that they should have a veto over who can publish true facts about the defects in their products, and dress up this demand as concern over security. "If you tell bad guys about the mistakes we made, they will exploit those bugs and harm our users. You should tell us about those bugs, sure, but only we can decide when it's the right time for our users and customers to find out about them."
When it comes to warnings about the defects in their own products, corporations have an irreconcilable conflict of interest. Time and again, we've seen corporations rationalize their way into suppressing or ignoring bug reports. Sometimes, they simply delay the warning until they've concluded a merger or secured a board vote on executive compensation.
Sometimes, they decide that a bug is really a feature – like when Facebook decided not to do anything about the fact that anyone could enumerate the full membership of any Facebook group (including, for example, members of a support group for people with cancer). This group enumeration bug was actually a part of the company's advertising targeting system, so they decided to let it stand, rather than re-engineer their surveillance advertising business.
The idea that users are safer when bugs are kept secret is called "security through obscurity" and no one believes in it – except corporate executives. As Bruce Schneier says, "Anyone can design a system that is so secure that they themselves can't break it. That doesn't mean it's secure – it just means that it's secure against people stupider than the system's designer":
The history of massive, brutal cybersecurity breaches is an unbroken string of heartbreakingly naive confidence in security through obscurity:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/05/battery-vampire/#drained
But despite this, the idea that some bugs should be kept secret and allowed to fester has powerful champions: a public-private partnership of corporate execs, government spy agencies and cyber-arms dealers. Agencies like the NSA and CIA have huge teams toiling away to discover defects in widely used products. These defects put the populations of their home countries in grave danger, but rather than reporting them, the spy agencies hoard these defects.
The spy agencies have an official doctrine defending this reckless practice: they call it "NOBUS," which stands for "No One But Us." As in: "No one but us is smart enough to find these bugs, so we can keep them secret and use them attack our adversaries, without worrying about those adversaries using them to attack the people we are sworn to protect."
NOBUS is empirically wrong. In the 2010s, we saw a string of leaked NSA and CIA cyberweapons. One of these, "Eternalblue" was incorporated into off-the-shelf ransomware, leading to the ransomware epidemic that rages even today. You can thank the NSA's decision to hoard – rather than disclose and patch – the Eternalblue exploit for the ransoming of cities like Baltimore, hospitals up and down the country, and an oil pipeline:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EternalBlue
The leak of these cyberweapons didn't just provide raw material for the world's cybercriminals, it also provided data for researchers. A study of CIA and NSA NOBUS defects found that there was a one-in-five chance of a bug that had been hoarded by a spy agency being independently discovered by a criminal, weaponized, and released into the wild.
Not every government has the wherewithal to staff its own defect-mining operation, but that's where the private sector steps in. Cyber-arms dealers like the NSO Group find or buy security defects in widely used products and services and turn them into products – military-grade cyberweapons that are used to attack human rights groups, opposition figures, and journalists:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/10/24/breaking-the-news/#kingdom
A good Cybercrime Treaty would recognize the perverse incentives that create the coalition to keep us from knowing which products we can trust and which ones we should avoid. It would shut down companies like the NSO Group, ban spy agencies from hoarding defects, and establish an absolute defense for security researchers who reveal true facts about defects.
Instead, the Cybercrime Treaty creates new obligations on signatories to help other countries' cops and courts silence and punish security researchers who make these true disclosures, ensuring that spies and criminals will know which products aren't safe to use, but we won't (until it's too late):
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2024/06/if-not-amended-states-must-reject-flawed-draft-un-cybercrime-convention
A Cybercrime Treaty is a good idea, and even this Cybercrime Treaty could be salvaged. The member-states have it in their power to accept proposed revisions that would protect human rights and security researchers, narrow the definition of "cybercrime," and mandate transparency. They could establish member states' powers to refuse illegitimate requests from other countries:
https://www.eff.org/press/releases/media-briefing-eff-partners-warn-un-member-states-are-poised-approve-dangerou
bingqiu au where sy is thrown into the unexpectedly female body of sqq. so when sy finds out, he gets carried away with the bright idea that the best way to avoid the terrible fate of the original goods is to take on the role of a mother-figure for luo binghe.
after all, in pidw there were only two roles for good-looking women like him (and really he didn't expect the original goods to look this good actually. no wonder airplane never posted official art for this man—woman?—the dudebros would definitely clamor to make sqq part of binghe's harem despite all the abuse and torment he—she??—put the man through) that won't end in getting his entire body ripped apart: a) fall in love with luo binghe and join his harem or b) be a mother-figure for binghe and tragically die.
his prospects were, at face value, not very promising. he wasn't female so he couldn't possibly fall in love with binghe so sy has no choice but to follow through with the latter.
the system is surprisingly silent when his mind races through the idea and doesn't raise any complaints about sy messing with the plot this way.
sy believes that, with all his stock knowledge of murim and fantasy worlds, he can avoid the fates that often befell these types of characters—often sacrificial deaths that lead to the protagonist's next power-up. he could gather all the artifacts for level-ups and give them to binghe at the right time!
another good way to lock in on the surviving mother-figure role is by promising to be present during the protagonist's wedding. so he does just that (not understanding the dazed look that enters his bun's face) and, to really make sure, also promises the same for all of binghe's wives (to ning yingying, luo mingyan, wife #124 a defected qiong ding disciple, etc.).
suddenly, everyone in cang qiong is abuzz over rumors of sqq wanting a wedding/looking for a husband/getting wedding fever/etc. the rumors have all jumbled up at this point into a massive mess at this point.
lqg and yqy are trying to figure out if sqq is trying to subtly shoot them a sign by approaching their sister/disciple.
meanwhile, sy thinks that he's totally got this and how on track he is with his plan when binghe accidentally slips and calls him, "mom" one time. unfortunately, all he did was stir up the hidden pseudo-oedipus complex in his poor bun.
#bingqiu#svsss#scum villain#scum villain self saving system#svsss au#mxtx svsss#scumbag self saving system#everyone develops a latent oedipus complex with how engrossed sy fell into the role of protagonist's mother-figure#binghe thinks he's tripping when sy forgets to bind his chest one day and binghe's eyes end up drifiting to his chest one too many times#sy wanting to fully lock in his role: binghe you can call me mommy if you want#lbh: *self-implodes*
